I’m very happy that it’s dive season! I’ve had quite a few early season calls lately and am very happy to be back in the water. Compared to this time last year, the water is practically warm! I had a good time sharing a booth with Bruno’s Great Lakes Diver at MacRay Harbor’s Spring Vendor Show. Bruno’s is a great place to go if you’re looking to learn to dive (or want to get your ice skates sharpened!). We got to meet a lot of people and enjoyed the marina ambiance.
Earlier this spring, I had the opportunity to metal detect in some mud that was dredged from a canal in New Baltimore. I didn’t find the gold bars that I was expecting, but it was fun to dig up the old bottles and beer cans that were in the pile. The cans are likely from the 50s or 60s. I also found a Zippo lighter, no inscription. This wasn’t a great find, but may have still been the best from that day.
Lately, I’ve been diving for phones, boat parts, and other items. I also had the opportunity to help salvage a boat that sank in its slip at a marina. It was a long day of diving but was a fun experience. I’m looking forward to more diving (and warmer water!) as summer gets closer.
